Time for a bit of really excellent local talent that I listen to under and above the streets of Manhattan. Meet Heth and Jed. I think these two brothers born in LA and now live in the lower east side of Manhattan are quintessential musicians who can take you from chaos to calm with the progressive sounds that they create.
These guys are my favorite musicians that who are part of the New York Mass Transit’s Music Under New York.
After a totally out of control day at work I passed by Heth and Jed playing at Penn Station.  I spoke to them for a few moments about Morow, picked up their disc featured on the link above and headed off to my car. I have about an hour ride home to Long Island in my car. I inserted the CD into my cars stereo and was carried away. I LOVE FINDING DUDES THAT CAN PLAY GREAT MUSIC!!! I got home and played some of the tracks for my wife and she loved them! Anyway. I ripped the CD and decided on the way to work this morning on the good old LIRR that I would feature them.
Heth and Jed, Thank you for the excellent musical experience on the ride home last night and on the way in to Manhattan on the LIRR streaming you guys to my laptop from the server in my basement!
If you are in Manhattan you will most likely see these two playing somewhere.   I have read on their on their site this morning that they have played over 500 shows over the last 2 years. Now that is real dedication to the craft!
Well anyway people, please enjoy this, as you can tell from above I am.

Mike Portnoy invited Jordan Rudess (keyboard) and progressive rock icon Tony Levin (bass, Chapman Stick) of King Crimson and Peter Gabriel’s band to join him. In his instructional video “Liquid Drum Theater”, Portnoy said that his first choice for the guitar was Dimebag Darrell, but he was unable to join because of conflicting schedules. Two other primary choices, Steve Morse (Dixie Dregs, Kansas, Deep Purple) and Jim Matheos (Fates Warning) were also unavailable. Portnoy then turned to fellow Dream Theater member John Petrucci to fill the position (despite initially wanting to keep the project completely separate from Dream Theater). The combo was formed as a side project to Dream Theater in 1997. Some theorise that Rudess was asked to join Dream Theater largely because of the success of Liquid Tension Experiment. He had already declined a previous offer to join in 1994 and instead became a member of the Dixie Dregs, known for complex, “Southern fusion” instrumental music.
Liquid Tension Experiment released two albums, Liquid Tension Experiment (1998) and Liquid Tension Experiment 2 (1999) on Magna Carta Records. They also played a few live shows in New York, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. Mike Portnoy has previously stated in numerous interviews (and on his web site FAQ) that there would not be a third LTE album, as 3/4 of the band is in the current Dream Theater line-up and the material would be too similar; yet there can always be live shows with the same line-up. In 2007 however, he said that a third release is possible, but that his problems with the Magna Carta label are more of an obstacle than getting the band members together to record.[1]
Several songs and riffs from the project have been incorporated into Dream Theater’s live performances, such as “Instrumedley” from Live at Budokan.
On October 4, 2007, it was announced that LTE would headline NEARfest 2008 in June. On March 29 2008, six Liquid Tension Experiment tour dates in June 2008 were announced to celebrate the bands 10 year anniversary as well to create a “whole new musical experiences”.[2][3]
Liquid Tension Experiment announced that there will be a new live album CD/DVD coming soon through their Facebook site on June 30th. They also said there are plans for a new studio album, as well as an “Official Bootleg” of their live show in Chicago show on June 25th [4]. That night, Rudess’ keyboard malfuncioned about halfway through the show. While he was on the phone with Roland Japan trying to figure out the problem, the other three members jammed on stage. This went on for over an hour, leading up to the finale where Rudess took Petrucci’s guitar and played, while Petrucci played Levin’s bass and Levin played his Chapman stick. Following that, Portnoy grabbed Levin’s bass and Charlie Benante played drums for the grand finale.

Caerllysi Music have released the latest Colossal Concept 2 cd Project from Antony Kalugin of Karfagen and Hoggwash fame.
Antony has brought together seventeen of the most talented musicians in the Ukraine and created a musical masterpiece.
There is well over 96 minutes of music centering around three epic tracks which total more than 63 minutes alone, the album crosses all the musical genres in a most rewarding and enjoyable way.
It starts off musically where Hoggwash and the last Karfagen albums finished, the project subject is about growing up and the childhood innocence that we hold deep within us.
The double cd will also include some surprises and hopefully some camera footage and will be sold at a sensible price.
So as Antony says, “be a child with an open heart” ENJOY FOLKS AND BE WARNED TOO MUCH GOOD MUSIC CAN BE ADDICTIVE!!!!
Enjoy,
Christian

The Flower Kings are a Swedishprogressive rock band. Formed in 1993 by veteran guitarist Roine Stolt as a touring band to support his solo album The Flower King, the band stayed together after the tour and have gone on to become one of the most prolific studio recording units in rock music of their era. In ten years they have released nearly 18 hours of music.
The Flower Kings have seen frequent personnel changes. The original line-up for Stolt’s solo album consisted of Stolt (vocals, electric guitar, bass, keyboards), Jaime Salazar (drums), and Hasse Fröberg (vocals). When the full band was formed, they added Michael Stolt (bass) and Tomas Bodin (keyboards). Michael Stolt and Salazar have both left the band since its formation, replaced by Jonas Reingold (bass) and Zoltan Csörsz (drums). Other contributors have included Hasse Bruniusson (percussion), Ulf Wallander (saxophone) and Daniel Gildenlöw of Pain of Salvation (vocals, guitar, keyboards and percussion). Zoltan Csörsz has recently been replaced by new drummer Marcus Liliequist. Daniel Gildenlöw recently left because of personal issues. According to a Myspace blog posted by Roine Stolt on April 2, 2007, Zoltan Csörsz will perhaps return permanently as drummer; he plays on their newest record.
Roine Stolt has written the vast majority of the material the band has recorded, with Bodin contributing most of the rest. The music is perhaps best described as “symphonic,” bearing a strong resemblance in many instances to that of Yes, and yet there are also hints of strong influence from the jazz fusion genre. The band’s lyrics are almost uniformly positive, affirming such values as love, peace, and spirituality.
Their 1999 album Flower Power contains one of the longest progressive rock tracks ever recorded, the eighteen-section, nearly 60-minute “Garden of Dreams.”
In June 2007 they released Road Back Home, mostly a compilation of remixed songs from 1995 to 2006, plus “Little Deceiver” (a previously unreleased track) and the full version of their cover of Genesis‘ “The Cinema Show.” [1]
The following tunes are a compilation of “Horner’s The Best Of The Flower Kings” which come off of a number of studio and live recordings.
Enjoy,
Christian

Here is my best friend Joe Garbus’ son Jack performing a classic Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds by the Beatles. “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” is a song written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney that was recorded by The Beatles for their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Click on the youtube video below and experience the intensity that is Jack Garbus…
Joe was kind enough to write a few words about Jack and his love and challenges in getting into playing Guitar.
Jack is 8 years old and has been playing guitar since September 07. He actually wanted to play guitar when he was 5 but the folks who run the local music store said his hands were too small. At 7 Jack went back in and they said that he was ready to go. He started playing simple tunes like “Ode to Joy” and learned a few parts of other classics like “Smoke on the Water” and “Day Tripper”. Jack takes a 30 minute lesson each week and jams with his overzealous father on drums and bass on a regular basis.

Hackett was born in Pimlico, London and attended the Sloane Grammar School, Chelsea.
He grew up having access to various musical instruments, such as the recorder and mouth organ, but did not develop an interest in the guitar until the age of twelve, when he started playing single notes. By fourteen, he was learning chords and experimenting with chord progressions, although he never received any formal instruction. Hackett’s earliest musical influences were classical (Johann Sebastian Bach) and opera (Mario Lanza). He has stated that his compositions are still influenced by them. Hackett also has cited numerous British blues artists as influences, namely Danny Kirwan, Peter Green, and various guitarists in John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers.

White Christmasis a 1945 Christmas album by Bing Crosby. Originally released as Merry Christmas, it has since been revised, but it has remained in print for over sixty years.
I love this album. Bing is one of the best whistlers I have ever heard. Just listen to him on White Christmas. It would not be Christmas without it. Once again have a very Merry Christmas everyone!!
Enjoy,
Christian

“Christmas in Killarney,” recorded October 1, 1951 with John Scott Trotter and His Orchestra and Jud Conlon’s Rhythmaires.
“Mele Kalikimaka,” recorded September 7, 1950 with the Andrews Sisters and Vic Schoen and His Orchestra.
The March 19, 1947 recording of “White Christmas” heard on this recording, and almost all other extant pressings, is actually a re-recording of the song with the same orchestra and chorus, in an attempt to re-create the original May 1942 recording as closely as possible. The reason was an unprecedented occurrence: The original 1942 recording rapidly became the largest selling record in history up to that time. By 1947 the original master had actually worn out and was no longer usable, hence the necessity to re-record the song. The versions are, of course, very similar, but conductor Trotter took a somewhat gentler approach to the song in the 1947 recording.

Under the Pink is the second solo album by singer-songwriter Tori Amos. Upon its release in January 1994, the album peaked at #12 on Billboard’s (North America) Top 200 chart and #1 in the UK Albums Chart, on the back of the hit single “Cornflake Girl” (based on the novel Possessing the Secret of Joy by Alice Walker). A special double-disc edition was released exclusively in New Zealand and Australia called More Pink The B~Sides.
The album represents a more acoustic piano-based sound, and most of the final third of the album is devoted to a classical-inspired suite of piano songs, including the sweeping 9-and-a-half minute epic “Yes, Anastasia.” TAmos used a prepared upright piano for the studio recording of “Bells for Her”, which was also played on a prepared piano for the second half of the tour.
Although it drew a mostly favourable reaction, it disappointed some critics who considered it a step sideways rather than forwards from Little Earthquakes (but was voted among the greatest albums of the 1990s by Rolling Stone magazine some years later).
My wife Caroly loves this album. I hope you you enjoy the listening experience!
Enjoy,
Christian

A Charlie Brown Christmas is an album by the Vince Guaraldi Trio, released in 1965 as the soundtrack to the CBS Christmas television special of the same name. It is among the most popular holiday music albums of all time. There was also a book-and-record set featuring music, dialogue, and stills from the Christmas special released in 1977 on a 45 RPM vinyl record by CBS Records.
Fantasy Records reissued the album on CD in 1988; this edition is identical to the original 1965 LP release and can still be purchased in stores and online. A somewhat controversial remastered version of the original album was released by Concord Records in conjunction with Fantasy on October 10, 2006. The new edition includes four previously unreleased bonus tracks — all are alternate versions of songs in the original track listing — and features Digipak packaging, new liner notes by “famed music critic/historian Joel Selvinâ€, and the original cover art.
So much for the Holiday Spirit - Controversy over a Christmas Album??!?!??!?!?!

Though the band enjoyed some significant chart success (including the UK hits “Making Plans For Nigel” (1979) and “Senses Working Overtime” (1982)), they are more known for their long-standing critical success than for making hit records.
This weeks track list is from XTC’s Oranges & Lemons.
Released: February 27th, 1989 - Label: Virgin Records - Producer: Paul Fox

All songs written by Andy Partridge, except where noted.
